60+ Years of SCTA Milestones
- 1958 — Early Vision. Bev Edstrom and Nan Frame began reaching out to hospitals across Canada to explore forming an association for cardiology technicians.
- 1963 — Organizing the Profession. Saskatchewan technicians meet at the University Hospital in Saskatoon with support from physicians and colleagues from Manitoba to begin forming a provincial association.
- 1964 — Official Charter. The Saskatchewan Cardiology Technicians Association is officially chartered under the Government Societies Act with 22 founding members.
- 1960s — Education & Training Growth. The association begins hosting seminars, workshops, and correspondence courses, helping build early standards for electrocardiography training in Saskatchewan.
- 1968 — Professional Recognition. SCTA is formally recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons and becomes an Institutional Member of the Saskatchewan Hospital Association.
- 1970 — National Collaboration. Saskatchewan technologists joined the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technicians, contributing to national education standards and certification.
- 1970s–2000s — Building the Profession. SCTA continued supporting technologists across Saskatchewan through education sessions, certification support, and professional networking.
- 1976 - Creation of the Iola Whitney Award. Established to honor Iola Whitney, a Swift Current technologist who was very active in the association. The award recognizes the SCTA member achieving the highest mark on the CSCT registration exam.
- 2024 — 60th Anniversary Celebration. SCTA celebrates 60 years of supporting cardiology technologists in Saskatchewan, marking six decades of advancing education, standards, and collaboration in cardiac diagnostics.
- Today — Looking ahead. SCTA remains committed to education, professional development, and advocacy, supporting technologists and strengthening cardiac care across Saskatchewan.
